Cookie policy

This page lists everything Curious Koko stores in your browser. There is less of it than on most sites, because the game has no analytics, no social widgets and no tracking pixels.

The difference between the game and these pages

Two things live at this address, and they behave differently:

Strictly necessary

Name / kindSet byPurposeDuration
curiouskoko.localProgress.v2 (local storage, not a cookie)Curious KokoYour save file: players, nicknames, stars, coins, materials, crafted items, outfit, map position. Stays on the device and is not sent anywhere by itself.Until you clear site data
Firebase Authentication tokens (local storage and cookies)Google FirebaseKeeps the anonymous or signed-in session alive so your save file can be found again on the next visit.Session and up to 1 year
reCAPTCHA Enterprise / App CheckGoogleConfirms that requests to the database come from the real game rather than an automated abuser.Session, up to 6 months

These cannot be switched off without breaking the game, and none of them are used for advertising or for tracking you across other websites.

Advertising

Ads on the information pages are served by Google AdSense. Because this site is directed at children, it is tagged for child-directed treatment and ads are served non-personalised: no interest profile is built, and remarketing and interest-based targeting are off.

Name / kindSet byPurposeDuration
__gads, __gpi and similarGoogleAd delivery: limiting how often the same ad is shown, aggregate reporting to the advertiser, and click-fraud detection. Not used here to build an interest profile.Up to 13 months
Google ad-serving requestsGoogleLoading the ad itself. Involves the standard technical data every web request carries — IP address, browser, page URL.Not stored by us

What we do not use

How to refuse or remove them

  1. Block them in your browser. Every modern browser can block third-party cookies for a site, or all cookies for a site, in its site-settings panel. Blocking third-party cookies stops the advertising ones; the game still works.
  2. Clear what is already there. Clearing this site's data removes the save file and every cookie set here. Note that this deletes the child's progress if you have not signed in.
  3. Opt out of personalised advertising generally at Google Ads Settings, aboutads.info/choices, or youronlinechoices.eu.
  4. Use a content blocker. A browser extension or network-level blocker will stop ad requests entirely. Nothing in the game depends on them.

If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you will be asked for a choice about advertising and cookies before non-essential ones are set, and you can change that choice at any time from the link in that prompt.
